Pūrangakura and Ngā Puna o Waiōrea awarded TLRI funding for Ngā Wai o Orea

Pūrangakura is thrilled to announce our latest research project, Ngā Wai o Orea: Mapping student journeys for success, led by Professor Jenny Lee-Morgan, has been awarded funding through the Teaching and Learning Research Initiative (TLRI) under the Whatua Tū Aka pathway.

This kaupapa Māori one-year project partners with Ngā Puna o Waiōrea to co-create and use geospatial (GIS) insights to strengthen kura decision making and support ākonga Māori. The project will develop clear, practical maps that help the school understand student journeys, residence patterns, and the factors that contribute to student success.

Building on a longstanding research relationship between Pūrangakura and Waiōrea this work will offer a practical exemplar for other Māori-medium schools interested in using geospatial tools in culturally aligned ways.

Pūrangakura acknowledges TLRI and NZCER for their support, and extends warm thanks to Ngā Puna o Waiōrea, Tumuaki Pā Chris Selwyn and Whaea Naomi Cusack for their leadership and continued partnership in this kaupapa.
