In March 2024 we were hosted by Mā Te Huruhuru at He Pā Piringa in Tāmaki Makaurau; the first kaupapa Māori transitional housing for rangatahi that are experiencing housing insecurity in Aotearoa.
Day one was spent learning about the space, the kaupapa and the rangatahi who call He Pā Piringa home. Some of the rangatahi shared with us their housing experiences and aspirations for the future and it was a privilege to witness the huge impact Mā te Huruhuru is having on their lives. We spent the second day in wānanga with the full research team including the newly appointed rangatahi advisors. Together we developed the interview questions ensuring that the whole team contributed to the refining of our qualitative work and kaupapa rangatahi methodology.
Many thanks to the amazing rangatahi leadership of Mahera Maihi, CE of Ma Te Huruhuru. We gained valuable insight into the realities of housing for some of our most vulnerable rangatahi and the important and necessary mahi the team their do in changing the trajectory for rangatahi and their whānau.
